Saxophone neurology

Here’s an interesting article on an operation to remove a brain tumour from a musician (in Spanish). During the 12 hour operation the patient played pieces on the saxophone to show the surgeons which areas of his brain were used when he played music. The really interesting part is that it was done by the neurosurgery team in the Hospital Regional Universitaro here in Málaga, where I will be going soon for my pre-surgery investigations. However, I don’t think they can guarantee I’ll be able to play the saxophone afterwards!
