Purple Day

Please excuse the untidy, unshaven look, but we’ve just moved house and we’re spending the weekend putting together furniture and unpacking boxes.

Here’s me in my purple t-shirt celebrating Purple Day! Here’s a post from the Epilepsy Society explaining what it’s all about.

PS I can’t leave this without mentioning my brother, who always manages to find me the most amazing t-shirts for birthday and xmas. Cheers Bruv! 😀

Reassuring news

Here’s an article published yesterday in the local newspaper (in spanish):

http://www.diariosur.es/malaga-capital/201603/01/jefe-neurocirugia-carlos-haya-20160229222055.html

It says the head surgeon of the Carlos Haya hospital in Málaga has been rated by his peers as being in the top 10 consultants in the whole of Spain. Which is very nice to hear when you might be having surgery there in the next 2 or 3 years. 🙂

Saxophone neurology

Here’s an interesting article on an operation to remove a brain tumour from a musician (in Spanish). During the 12 hour operation the patient played pieces on the saxophone to show the surgeons which areas of his brain were used when he played music. The really interesting part is that it was done by the neurosurgery team in the Hospital Regional Universitaro here in Málaga, where I will be going soon for my pre-surgery investigations. However, I don’t think they can guarantee I’ll be able to play the saxophone afterwards!

Something for the weekend

I know I said I would only write when I had some news. I lied. OK, most of the time I’ll only write when I have news, but occasionally I’ll write when I find something interesting that is related to the subject at hand.

Mr Google popped this into my search results last night: it’s an epilepsy brain surgery game! Now I know exactly what the surgeon will be doing and will be able to take over if necessary 😉
